Course Overview: Agricultural Ecology investigates the factors determining the sustainability of food production, focusing on the ecological, social, and economic challenges. We begin by examining the biological constraints and ecological conditions necessary for agricultural production. We then move into a critical analysis and assessment of their overall feasibility and long-term sustainability of different approaches to food production. You’ll gain firsthand lab experience in agricultural practices involving both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The semester culminates with conducting personal or small-group research projects addressing real-world problems & questions in agricultural contexts. You’ll leave the course with a deep understanding of how their food choices affect both local and global sustainability.
